About the Film

The World Premiere of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Prison was on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Cinema 21, Portland, Oregon. It was a fantastic success! An enthusiastic SOLD OUT audience honored Bushra Azzouz, the many other people who made the film possible, and six actors from the original production of the play who are featured in the film.

In 2010 Bushra Azzouz filmed a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla, Oregon. The play was directed by Johnny Stallings. Bushra and her crew went to the prison eight times, and filmed rehearsals, performances, dialogues and individual interviews with all the actors, and with the musician and stage manager.

In June of 2019 Bushra passed away from cancer. Before she died, she assembled a team of people to finish the film. Enie Vaisburd is Post Production Director. Ellen Thomas is Post Production Producer. Johnny Stallings is Producer.
